In case you were curious what the actual failure was that led me to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and go !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - it was the water pump.

Apparently the bearing failed in spectacular fashion, taking the seal with it. All the coolant in the engine bay presumably then came blasting out of the weep hole and all over the fan. The steel impeller then started trying to bore its way through the aluminum housing.

It’s actually a fairly simple repair. It took me a lazy 90 minutes to get the water pump off. I have the new one sitting on the bench right now. It’ll probably take me another lazy 90 minutes to put the new one in and fill the system back up.

After that, I’ll be putting it up for sale. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I spent the better part of a month (not continuously!) looking for a replacement water pump for my ‘61 Ford pickup last year. It’s JUST old enough that parts aren’t a dime a dozen, and can actually be NLA. Even a water pump. I almost sent my old one to be rebuilt when I found one. Of COURSE I kept the old one, you know, “just in case” lol

Yikes. Yeah for the Jeep 4.0L there are numerous options, all in the $14 - $40 range. I chose to get the water pump and fan clutch assembly for a whopping $55.
